Neurodistinct people often spend a long time trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Becoming more reasonable with myself and figuring out what it IS that I bring to the table has been more valuable than taking calculus ever could be. Even with this note itself - if I'd written it 20 years ago, I would've been told not to write in all capitals. But as I got older, I realized it wasn't just because I thought it "looked cool." It helps me separate the letters better visually. Give yourselves and each other the freedom of time and space, along with resources, flexibility, and encouragement, and you'll see we all have so much to offer each other.
It's time for a rebrand, don't you think?

In the context of feedback, "nice job!" is not a full sentence. Positive feedback isn't just polite. It's critical if you want to see more of the good stuff. That said, be specific in ALL feedback. "Nice job" doesn't mean anything. Tell people you notice the specific value they bring to the workplace.
No two human brains are the same, nor are our experiences, or interpretations of things being said. Don't tell us how we feel, what we can or can't do, or what we need. Lots of well-meaning people and programs speak in ways that they might not realize can not only be hurtful, but are just plain innaccurate. Examples: - "_________ people don't like socializing." - "_________ people don't have impressive resumes because they only have one specific interest." - "________ is your superpower." - "_________ is your disability."
The secret is out.
Have you heard of the arc of distortion? I know it sounds like the coolest band name ever, but it's not. The arc of distortion refers to how information can change and become less accurate as it is passed from one person to another. Things like nonverbal communication, language barriers, the "digital divide", lack of context, and time and place are some examples how how what you meant can be distorted into how they took it. Keep this in mind when you're trying to get your message across!
"Dyslexia isn't about seeing everything backwards. It's seeing things from all angles." We're innately innovators. We're designers by design. I'm not going to sit here and tell you being dyslexic is always easy, but the dyslexic experience isn't necessarily as straightforward (or backwards) as what people think.
